Micro Holiday: Call of the Scarab

It was at Blizzcon 2016 that it was announced Blizzard was to introduce micro holidays into Warcraft and they were introduced in patch 7.1.5. Micro holidays are small holidays similar to the current holidays like Feast of Winter Veil, but which only last 1-3 days and for which there is no actual reward such as achievements or mounts or pets.  Instead of celebrating real life holidays such as Christmas and Valentines Day they will celebrate events in the warcraft world of Azeroth.

On this date, the Scarab Gong was rung, opening the gates of Ahn'Qiraj.  Represent your faction by gathering supplies or by slaying Twilight and Qiraji forces.  The winning faction gets to fly their banner next to the Scarab Gong for the rest of the year!

The first of these micro holidays for 2017 is Call of the Scarab to celebrate the opening of the gates of Ahn'Qiraj, a famous event in the Warcraft timeline way back on January 23rd 2006. 

In 2006 the whole community of World of Warcraft came together to collect resources, kill mobs and fight bosses to open the gates.  In tribute to that great event Call of the Scarab has Horde and Alliance competing against each other to see who can collect the most commendations in 24 hrs.  Commendations are collected by completing world quests, killing bosses, collecting resources and killing the last boss in both of the Ahn'Qiraj raids (Ruins of Ahn'Qiraj and Temple of Ahn'Qiraj). The winner will get their banner outside the temple of Ahn'Qiraj until the next Call of the Scarab holiday.

On entering Silithus you will be given a quest to speak to your faction leader (for horde this is Warlord Gorchuk).  He will explain the holiday and what it means and how you can help.  Some world quests become available, Colossus will spawn from the hives and also, by collecting a lot of Abyssal Crests you can buy an item to spawn an Abyssal Duke (250 crests) or an Abyssal Lord (1000 crests).  Please note you must be wearing the 3 items of Twilight armor (Twilight Cultist Cowl, Twilight Cultist Mantle and Twilight Cultist Robe) or you will get hurt when you click the Wind Stones to summon the elementals for the Lesser Wind Stones World Quest.  These drop from any twilight mobs.
