First Dragonflight Twitch drop

The first Dragonflight Twitch drop became available on 15th November at 11pm (for UK) and you were only able to claim it until 19th November at 12:59am.  The drop is a previous Trading Card Game battle pet, the Dragon Kite.

In order to claim Twitch drops you must first link your battle net account and your twitch account.  Log in on battle.net and on the Account Settings page, pick Connections from the list on the left,  This takes you to a list of your connected accounts including Twitch.6

To be awarded the pet you need to watch 4 hours of WOW content on Twitch.  Provided the streamer has twitch drops enabled, watching their channel will count towards the pet.  You do not need to watch the same channel for the whole 4 hours.  You can check your progress by clicking in your profile in the top right corner and then Drops  Rewards from about half way down the drop down list.  When you get to 100% click claim and the pet will appear in your pet journal in game.

The Dragon Kite is a dragonkin pet with the abilities Breath, Call Lightning, Volcano, Tail Sweep, Roar and Lift Off.  It is unusual because this pet is like an actual kite and it will be attached to you by a string when you summon it.

It also has a few different colours which it can spawn as, including green, purple, red/blue and blue/gold.

WOW: Soulshapes for Everyone

Soulshape is a signature ability for members of the Night Fae Covenant.  There are many different forms to collect, 72 in total, 50 Soulshapes and 22 Crittershapes.  They drop from treasures, bosses, random mobs and you can get them from quest rewards and buy them from rep vendors as well as many other ways to.  They are all over every activity in the Shadowlands.

There were concerns that the Soulshape ability and all the shapes you had collected would disappear with Dragonflight.  However, with the Dragonflight Pre-patch there is a new quest from Lady Muunn in the Night Fae Covenant Hall which rewards the toy Seeds of Renewed Souls

This toy will not give you the Soulshape ability to jump forward, Flicker, or have increased movement speed but, you will still change into your chosen soulshape or crittershape and these can still be changed by speaking with Lady Muunn or Choofa in the Covenant Hall.

Your other characters, who have not been Night Fae, will also be able to use the toy to become a Soulshape although they will not get a choice of forms and will only change into the starter form, the Vulpin.

Non Night Fae character Blackandblue as a Vulpin Soulshape

New WOW mount from Wrath Classic: Frostbrood Proto-Wyrm

Wrath of the Lich King Classic prepatch launched on 31 August 2022 (for EU) and with it was announced that if you complete the Death Knight starter zone in Classic Wrath you will receive a new mount, the Frostbrood Proto-Wyrm, in retail.

To get this mount in retail, all you need to do is create a new DK in classic Wrath of the Lich King and then complete the starter quests up until you go to your faction capital city, Orgrimmar or Stormwind. Once you have been accepted into the faction in the city go back to retail WOW to receive your mount, which will automatically appear as a wrapped gift in your mount log.

To create a DK in Wrath, I was worried you would need a max level character in classic, but you don't. My highest level character in either classic, or classic Burning Crusade, is level 9 but I was still able to create my DK, so don't worry if you haven't done much classic before, you can still get this mount.

Note that this mount will only be available until the launch of Dragonflight on 28th November so there is no immediate rush but don't leave it to the last minute.

Enjoy your mount.   :)

How to get to Tol Dagor

Tol Dagor is one of the dungeons from the Battle for Azeroth expansion located in Tiragarde Sound in Kul Tiras.  It is located out to sea, off the east coast and the entrance is not completely obvious from the map.

By standing on the coast (89:51), looking out to sea you can see the island and the Tol Dagor prison which is the location of the dungeon.

If you fly towards the island in a straight line across the sea you will get there without getting fatigue.  The entrance to the dungeon is located at the base of the big tower.  There is also a flight master there which you can get to fly straight there in the future.

Good luck with the dungeon and I hope this helps anyone who had, like me, totally forgotten how to find the entrance.

New Expansion Announced

On Tuesday 19th April 2022, at 5pm UK time, Blizzard announced the next expansion for World of Warcraft.

Welcome to World of Warcraft: Dragonflight

In this expansion we return to Azeroth and level to 70 in the Dragon Isles.  There will be 5 new zones, four levelling zones and a new starter zone.  There will also be a new race, the Dracthyr and a new Dracthyr only class, Evoker with both a healer and a mid ranged dps spec.  Dracthyr have both a humanoid and draconic form and will have many customisation options.  They can also be either Horde or Alliance.

Players will also be able to learn a new skill, Dragonriding and will be able to customise their own dragon mount.  This special mount will be used to travel and glide around the Dragon Isles.  Players will be able to add skills and customisations but we do not know yet how players will earn the upgrades.  Initial pictures and footage if these mounts look really nice.

Blizzard have also updated some other things in the expansion:

Talents - We are going back to having a talent tree, but you can have multiple saves of you trees and switch between them easily.  Each player will have two talent trees, one for their class and one for their spec. At max level you can expect to have picked two thirds of the talents.  This will hopefully lead to a few different viable play styles and you can pick what you prefer or what's best for what you like to do in the game.

Professions - Professions are having a complete overhaul.  When you have levelled your profession you will be able to specialise in a particular craft, e.g. a blacksmith could specialise in helmets.  You can then pick up work orders and do work for gold. If you don't have a profession you will be able to post a work order with commission and also some mats, if you have them, including soul bound or individual mats, and a player trained in that profession will be able to complete the order and make the item for you.  This sounds really good to me  but I have friends who are concerned it could be abused like at times the auction house has been.  However, I think it looks promising and that it could be good for both people who like doing professions and people who don't, provided the gear is relevant which is aways the biggest problem with profession gear.  In the past I have found that by the time you level you profession enough to make the highest level gear you no longer require it.

Updated User Interface - Blizzard will be updating the User Interface on World of Warcraft.  Over the years equipment people use to play has changed.  Monitors are bigger and often widescreen and the UI has not kept up with these changes.  Many players use add-ons in order to move their UI and make it more how they like to play.  The new Blizzard UI will be much more flexible with many more customisation options for moving toolbars etc around.  It will also have an updated mini map and graphics.  This will be easier for new players and will hopefully lead to less need for so many add-ons.

Mythic+ - Mythic+ is a very popular activity in World of Warcraft and there are plans for a shake up in Dragonflight which has been met with a mixed reaction.  Dragonflight will have 8 new dungeons and mythic+ season 1 will include 4 of these new dungeons as well as 4 dungeons from old expansions, some of which may have not previously been mythic dungeons.  Then season 2 will include the other 4 new dungeons along with a different 4 dungeons from old expansions.  Some people have welcomed this saying it will keep it fresh as well as making it easier for new players to get into mythic+ without feeling behind, but others are worried it will be to much or they could get stuck having to run a dungeon they do not like.

If you want to find out more about the new expansion check out posts on Wowhead and Battlenet as well as interviews which the devs did with well know YouTubers like Hazel Nutty Games for more info.

Flying on dragons is gonna be awesome!

Off to Zereth Mortis (9.2)

Patch 9.2 went live in Europe on 23rd February 2022 and after only a day I already loved it.  Many of the creatures have mechanical like features and they look really good.  The scenery looks great and there is loads to do.  The campaign follows the story of what happens next in our fight against the jailer.

The zone has many new pets, mounts, toys and achievements to collect.  There is also a new currency system, Cypher of the First Ones, which can give some benefits to help with exploration of the new zone.  However, if you do not want to collect this currency, there is no requirement to grind it in order to continue playing the game, get flying or access to raids, dungeons, tier sets or double legendary.  This additional content is optional.

New mount Patient Bufonid

As part of the Cypher of the First Ones you get a small automa companion called Pocopoc.  He will follow you around and aid you as you explore Zereth Mortis.  Using the new cypher currency you can enhance Pocopoc's abilities so he can help you fight and search for treasures.  You are also able to customise your Pocopoc with new colours and accessories such as hats.

One of the things you can learn using the cypher currency and the cypher research console is Protoform Synthesis.  This gives you access to the protoform synthesis forges and the ability to craft mounts and pets from the mats and recipes you collect from killing mobs and rares in Zereth Mortis or from treasures.

Enjoy exploring the new area, in only a few weeks if you keep up with the campaign everyone can get flying and then following that, double legendary.
